Smoke Detectors are amazing and wonderful things that save many lives every year, if maintained properly. We have 3 in the house and one of them is right outside our bedroom door.
We tend to forget to change the batteries, even though you are supposed to change them at Day Light Savings Time. Easy to remember you would think.
So last night Hot Carl and I are sound asleep. I am having happy dreams and am snuggled in bed. When all of a sudden I shoot up straight as a board in bed and so does Hot Carl.
I scream: “What the heck (I used a different word) was that!!!!!”
Hot Carl: “I have no idea.”
So I jump out of bed thinking it is the Home Alarm System. Think about grabing a bat or stronger weapon, but decide not to. Then realize it was the Smoke Detector.
Me: “Oh it was just the smoke detector; I think we forgot to change the batteries again.”
See this happens every year. You think being woken up at 1am once would have been enough. Oh no, we do this every year.
It freaks me out enough that I still look under the bed and in the closet just incase the boggie man set it off and wants to kill me.
Hot Carl: "What are you doing?"
Me: "Nothing"
Get back in bed slightly embrassed that I am looking for the boggie man.
Then make a mental note to buy batteries.
If you don’t change the battery in a smoke detector it will start screaming when the battery gets low. It can be very jarring. It is let’s say loud.
Guess I am changing a few batteries tonight when I get home.
I hate those nights. My answer is to take the smoke detector down, or beat it into submission.
ReplyDeleteI just changed the batteries in mine the other day. We must be on the same cycle! hehehe :)
ReplyDeleteYou know that kind of thing happens when a bunch of girls spend too much time together.
